By visa type

462 / 417

Working Holiday visa

Mainland Chinese passports apply for the 462, while Taiwan and Hong Kong passports are mostly 417. Educational qualifications and proof of funds at lodgement, and your driver licence for hiring a car after arrival, commonly need English certified translations.

485

Graduate Work Visa

The 485 is mostly applied for by international students who have completed their studies in Australia. English qualifications don't need translation; commonly translated are the police clearance certificate issued in China, and identity and relationship documents when bringing family members.

500

Student Visa

Commonly translated for student visas are Chinese qualifications, transcripts and proof of funds; if parents are funding tuition, you'll also need to prove the parent-child relationship and the sponsor's income.

820 / 801、309 / 100

Partner Visa

A partner visa requires proof of identity and relationship. Commonly translated documents include marriage certificates, household registers (hukou) and divorce certificates, plus Chinese-language materials showing contact between the partners and shared life.

189 / 190 / 491

Skilled Migration

From skills assessment to visa lodgement, skilled migration requires English certified translations of your qualifications, work history and police checks throughout — and identity and relationship documents for accompanying family members too.

600

Tourist Visa

父母来澳探亲、家人来旅游,常翻的是在职或退休证明、存款与房产证明,以及证明与邀请人关系的户口本。

FAQ

What are the Department of Home Affairs requirements for translations?
Non-English documents must be accompanied by English certified translations. For translations done in Australia, they must be issued by NAATI certified translators; different requirements apply to translations done overseas — refer to the Department of Home Affairs website.
Do I need to translate the entire household register (Hukou)?
Generally, translate the household registration home page and the registration pages of members relevant to the application. If you need to prove family relationships, include the pages of the relevant family members.
What should I do if the spelling of names on my documents differs from my passport?
Certified translations render names from the original document in Hanyu Pinyin. Before payment, you can check the spelling of names — keeping them consistent with your passport saves a lot of explanation.
Can older or handwritten documents be translated?
Yes. Older formats, handwritten text, and stamps will all be translated exactly as they appear on the original document, and any unclear sections will be noted on the certified translation.
Which Australian official agencies can the certified translations be submitted to?
Certified translations bearing the stamp and signature of a NAATI certified translator can be submitted to the Australian Department of Home Affairs (Immigration), state transport departments (for licence conversion), courts, notaries, universities and professional assessing bodies. Please check with the receiving agency if they have any specific additional requirements.
How long does it take to get the certified translation?
This depends on the turnaround time selected when placing your order. Once paid, the certified translation will be issued within your chosen timeframe. You will receive an email and collection link once it is ready.
Can the electronic PDF version be submitted directly?
Yes. Most Australian agencies accept electronic PDF certified translations, such as online submissions to the Department of Home Affairs. If an agency requires a hard copy, a colour printout will suffice. We recommend confirming the receiving agency's requirements before submission.
How can the receiving agency verify the authenticity of the certified translation?
Every certified translation is printed with a unique trace code and digital fingerprint. The receiving agency can enter the trace code or upload the PDF on an independent verification platform to check whether the certified translation matches the originally issued version.
